Important Announcement: Another Canal Enhancement Project by the Venice Canals Association

Several years ago, the Venice Canals Association (VCA) began our Shades of Protection Project which involved the installation of a shade sail system in Linnie Canal Park. This project is designed to provide shade over the swing area and is funded by donations from the community and matched by a grant from the City’s Community Beautification Program.

As with any City-sanctioned project, there have been many starts and stops but we are happy to announce that all the necessary permits and funding are in place and we have the go-ahead to proceed with the shade structure.

During the shade project approval process, the Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks determined that the almost 20 year old play equipment should be updated to current code requirements and soft matting under the equipment should be installed as it is safer and cleaner. The City will be doing this work at the same time that the shade structure is installed.

The shade sail system work is being done by Courtyard Construction Co. under Los Angeles Building & Safety Dept. Permit No. 12010-20000-00856, while the updated park equipment is being done by the LA City Department of Recreation & Parks.

PLEASE BE ADVISED that the park will be closed as of November 19, 2012, for approximately 5 weeks while the shade system is being installed and the park is being renovated and updated. During that period of closure, we suggest that you try the children’s parks at both Penmar Park and in Playa Vista.

We have been told that Dell will remain open to traffic at all times but there will be construction equipment in the area and we do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We want to especially thank Councilman Rosendahl’s Office and the Department of Recreation and Parks for all their help in making this happen!

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, we ask that you kindly contact Mark Galanty (310-749-5534) or call the VCA at (424) 229-2VCA.
