Tidal Gate Ribbon-Cutting Set for January 14th

The Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the Renovation of the Tidal Gates at Grand Canal & Washington that was originally scheduled for October 22, 2009 has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 14th, 2010, at 10:30 AM.

Place:  On Grand Canal at Washington Boulevard – just look for the balloons !!!

Guest of Honor:  Councilman Bill Rosendahl, CD 11

Light refreshments will be provided by the Venice Canals Association.

Venice Canals Boat Parade Sunday, December 13th

Save the Date – Holiday Boat Parade

boatparadeRenee Kaplan, co-chair, announced today that The Venice Canals Association’s 28th Annual Holiday Boat Parade is set for Sunday, December 13th, and the Home and Bridge Decorating Contest will be judged on Saturday, December 12th.

Row-In Movie this Saturday … ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’

movie2The next (and last of the season) of the Venice Canals Association’s Row-In Movie Night will be Saturday, August 22nd. The film will be “Creature from the Black Lagoon” … IN 3D !!! A scientific expedition searching for fossils along the Amazon River discover a prehistoric Gill-Man in the legendary Black Lagoon. The explorers capture the mysterious creature, but it breaks free. The Gill-Man returns to kidnap the lovely Kay, fiancée of one of the expedition, with whom it has fallen in love. 3D glasses available for the first 100 viewers !!!

The short will start at 7:45 PM with the feature beginning about 8:00 PM. The screen will be on the Dell Avenue bridge over LINNIE CANAL. The movie audio will be broadcast on 88.7 FM for those who want to tune in on their radios.

Slide Show of Historic Venice Photos Set for September 30

A slide show of historic Venice photographs to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Venice will be presented Wednesday, September 30 at Pacific Resident Theater. The featured photographers are Charles Brittin, Roderick Bradley, Anthony Friedkin and Frank Talbot.

Mary Jane, longtime member of Pacific Resident Theater and The Temple of Man, is presenting this celebratory show of photographs of Venice by these four esteemed artists, who are scheduled to attend the showings.

There will be two performances. The 6 PM showing is a gift to the Venice Community and is FREE to all. The 8 PM performance is a benefit for Pacific Resident Theater. Tickets for this performance are $15 or 2 for $25 … all monies will go to the Pacific Resident Theater. Reservations are recommended for both showings … 310.822.8392.
